[image]ALIJI_961579096.jpg[/image] WHOOSH! THAT IS ALL I REMEMBER OF THE LORRIES THAT PASSED BY US ALONG THE FRIGID KARAKORAM HIGHWAY. They seemed like giant clouds when comming towards you and a forgotten sad dream when they leave you behind. You almost have enough time to discern the images on the front (which are often very grand...like arms extended out or a crown or a colorful veil) and capture the colored mirage on the sides and then Whoosh they are gone... I asked a bystander once as why they passed so quickly by the walking travellers; he gigled for a second and then in a haunting voice said "Bhoot Baba Bhoot" which I understood to be "Ghosts, man, ghosts" I am sure though that he was refering to gangs of looters in tiny Japanese pickup trucks that frequest these routes. I was held up by one once near Peshawar and they only frisked me to see if I havd any guns they can take with me. The cold night is setting and all I can see is a dim light about 200 yds away, lets see if i CAN FIND REFUGE FOR TONIGHT.
